Rumors suggest Apple's iPhone Fold could launch in 2026. Here's a look at the anticipated features, specs, price, and launch date of the foldable iPhone.

The buzz around a foldable iPhone has been growing for years, and it seems 2026 might finally be the year Apple unveils its take on the technology. While Apple has been characteristically secretive, numerous credible sources have been providing details. The anticipated device aims to fuse the portability of the iPhone with the increased screen real estate and multitasking capabilities of the iPad, all encased in a premium titanium design.

**What to Expect from the iPhone Fold**

According to reports from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the iPhone Fold is expected to adopt a book-style folding mechanism, akin to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold. This design would allow it to open into a small tablet, offering dual screens. The outer display is predicted to be around 5.5 inches, suitable for everyday tasks, while the inner, folding display could measure 7.8 inches, delivering an iPad-like experience. Another report, this one from The Information, indicates slightly different screen dimensions: a 5.3-inch external screen and a 7.7-inch internal one. Regardless of the exact measurements, both sources suggest a compact but immersive user experience.

One of the most exciting rumored features is a crease-free display. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests Apple has overcome the crease issue that has plagued many foldable phones. The purported solution involves a metal plate system that distributes stress during bending, coupled with liquid metal hinges to enhance durability. Adding to this, Chinese tech site UDN claims Apple's foldable will be the first of its kind to eliminate the crease.

As for the build quality, expectations are high. The chassis is rumored to be constructed from titanium, with a hinge combining titanium and stainless steel for optimal strength and flexibility. Kuo suggests Apple is utilizing a similar titanium alloy to that found in the iPhone Air, known for its lightweight and durable properties.

In terms of cameras, reports from Bloomberg and Kuo suggest a quad-camera setup. This includes two 48-megapixel lenses on the rear, a front-facing camera, and an under-display camera on the inner screen for use when unfolded. The outer display camera is expected to be located in the top-left corner, while the under-screen lens maintains an uninterrupted inner display.

Interestingly, it appears Face ID might be absent from this initial model. Apple is anticipated to integrate a Touch ID side button, similar to those found on the iPad Air and iPad mini. This move would free up valuable space within the intricate hinge mechanism.

For connectivity, Apple is expected to incorporate its second-generation C2 modem, further distancing itself from Qualcomm chips. Gurman suggests the device will abandon the physical SIM card slot, relying solely on eSIM technology. Powering the device, high-density battery cells and a streamlined display driver are rumored to be used to maximize battery life, despite the power demands of the dual-screen design.

Currently, Apple is reportedly testing black and white color options with its suppliers, although additional finishes could become available closer to the official launch.

**Pricing and Availability**

Unsurprisingly, Apple's first foldable phone is not expected to be budget-friendly. Industry analysts predict a price tag ranging from $2,000 to $2,500, making it the priciest iPhone to date. Analysts at UBS and Fubon Research estimate a slightly lower range of $1,800 to $2,399, which still places it firmly in the premium market segment. For context, an $1800-$2000 price converts roughly to Rs 1,54,900 - Rs 1,72,000 in India. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. one can expect the final cost in India to be even higher considering import duties and taxes.

As for the release timeline, Gurman anticipates a fall 2026 launch, aligning with Apple's typical iPhone release pattern. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. Mizuho Securities in Japan has cautioned that delays into 2027 are possible if Apple continues to refine critical design aspects such as the hinge.

There's considerable excitement surrounding the prospect of an iPhone Fold. If Apple can deliver on its promise of a robust, crease-free design, complete with the premium feel the brand is renowned for, this foldable could very well redefine expectations for high-end smartphones.
