Vikanshu Tomar, an Indian influencer, responds after his 'Dhurandhar' review was misconstrued, leading to mistaken identity online.
An Instagram video review of 'Dhurandhar' by Indian content creator Vikanshu Tomar went viral, but not quite as intended. The Aditya Dhar-directed film stars Ranveer as an Indian spy operating in Lyari, Pakistan, and is based on events that took place in Karachi in the 2000s. While the film has sparked debate in Pakistan regarding its accuracy, Vikanshu's satirical take added another layer to the discussion.
In the video, Vikanshu and two collaborators posed as Pakistani viewers reacting to 'Dhurandhar'. The original Instagram post racked up nearly two million views. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. when meme pages shared clips without context, the video was misinterpreted and widely circulated as a genuine "Pakistani man praising Dhurandhar," even making its way into some news reports.
After the misidentification was pointed out, Vikanshu responded with another video, doubling down on his Pakistani persona. He jokingly chided the news outlets, saying they should conduct more research. He quipped, "If this is how it is, they will get Akshaye Khanna to campaign in Karachi elections the next time.” Akshaye Khanna portrays Rehman Dakait, a gangster with political connections, in 'Dhurandhar'.
Amidst the online amusement surrounding the case of mistaken identity, Vikanshu joined in the fun, commenting on a post about the incident: “Next time se acting halki karunga (I will act less convincing next time).”
