India (IND) vs South Africa (SA) LIVE Score, 2nd T20I: South Africa win the second T20I and level the series 1-1. A superb knock from Quinton de Kock and a disciplined bowling performance help them win the 2nd T20I in Mullanpur.
The loss on Thursday reflects two things.
1. Yes, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh can have a bad night.
2. India desperately need to rethink their batting order.
Perhaps a bigger explanation of the second point is needed.
Number 1. Is it worth it to sit Sanju Samson out?
Number 2. Does Shubman Gill belong in the T20I line-up?
Number 3. Why is Axar Patel batting at 3?
Number 4. Tilak Varma at No.5, really?
17.5: Lutho Sipamla to Jitesh Sharma, OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! Lutho Sipamla has his man! Pace on, full and at the sticks, Jitesh Sharma stays deep in the crease and swings across the line. Gets a leading edge that goes a long way up between short third and backward point. Ottneil Baartman moves to his right from short third and George Linde also converges. Good communication from the two men there as Linde leaves it for Baartman. Ottneil settles under the skier and takes a fine catch.
18.1: Ottneil Baartman to Shivam Dube, OUT! KNOCKED HIM OVER! Ottneil Baartman strikes on his return to the attack. Skidding through, on a length with an upright seam, Dube hangs on the back foot and looks to drag it away on the leg side. The ball sneaks under the angled bat to crash into the top of the off pole.
18.4: Ottneil Baartman to Arshdeep Singh, OUT! TAKEN! A tame dismissal and Ottneil Baartman's night continues to get better. Baartman switches to around the wicket and bashes the hard length, outside off. Singh stays leg side of the ball and tries to glide it away with a horizontal bat. Ends up steering it straight into the hands of David Miller at backward point, who makes no mistake.
18.6: Ottneil Baartman to Varun Chakaravarthy, OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! Three wickets in the over for Ottneil Baartman to cap off a good day at the office. Fuller and at the sticks, Chakaravarthy clears the front leg and swings to go down the ground. Gets the height but not the distance. It is skied towards long on, where Aiden Markram settles under the skier and takes the catch close to his chest.
19.1: Lungi Ngidi to Tilak Varma, OUT! CAUGHT! South Africa complete a dominant win. A scrambled seam delivery, on a good length, around the off pole. Tilak clears the front leg and swings through the line. Fails to get hold of it and the ball goes only as far as long on, where Aiden Markram does the rest. The Proteas win by 51 runs to draw level in the series.
What an over from Jitesh Sharma that one!
Nearly out in the first ball after the Ottneil Baartman's ball kisses the bail.
Flicks Baartman for six in the next ball
Slaps the ball to deep cover where Linde gets beaten by the spin of the ball and gives away a boundary.
Jitesh is going after every single ball and that is what India needs right now.
15.2: Ottneil Baartman to Jitesh Sharma, Oh, my! The bail lit up but did not fall. On a back of a length, at the sticks, Sharma has a heave across the line and the ball sneaks under the blade. The ball clips the top of the off pole and the bail pops up a bit in the groove but does not come off.
15.3: Ottneil Baartman to Jitesh Sharma, SIX! Nicely done! Full toss, down leg, Jitesh Sharma gets low and picks it up off the pads. Sends it way over deep backward square leg for a six.
15.5: Ottneil Baartman to Jitesh Sharma, Four! Short ball. Jitesh slaps the delivery through cover. The ball spins back and George Linde has overrun it. Four for India, and a rare ground fielding mistake from India.
Hardik Pandya was struggling and perhaps he will breathe a sigh of relief that the struggle has ended.
Two catches on back to back balls, and it is the second time that South Africa complete Hardik's catch.
14.1: Lutho Sipamla to Hardik Pandya, DROPPED! A massive moment in this game! Hard length and on middle, Hardik Pandya clears his front leg away to loft it down the ground but the ball gets a bit big on him. He miscues it high in the air towards long on, where Marco Jansen runs forward and slides to grab it but spills it out. Two taken. Hardik Pandya gets a life here.
14.2: Lutho Sipamla to Hardik Pandya, OUT! TAKEN! Lutho Sipamla gets his man this time. Marco Jansen will be a relieved man as his drop does not cost South Africa much here. This is full and angling into the pads. Hardik Pandya stays deep and looks to whip it away but gets it from the toe-end of his bat. It does not get the elevation and flies flat towards deep mid-wicket, where Dewald Brevis makes no mistake. Pandya walks back for a scratchy 20 off 23, and India lose half their side now.
IND vs SA Live Score: India (123/5 in 15 ovs), chasing 214 vs India in Mullanpur. Tilak Varma (53*), Hardik Pandya (20).
A superb pull shot from Tilak Varma and he reaches his fifty in 27 balls.
He keeps India's fight alive as Hardik struggles on the other end.
13.3: Lungi Ngidi to Tilak Varma, FIFTY FOR TILAK! He gets to it with a bang as well. Lungi Ngidi serves this fuller and on middle, takes pace off again. Tilak Varma goes down on one knee, waits for it and slog sweeps it cleanly over the deep square leg fence for a biggie. A fifty in just 27 balls, but he knows the job is far from done here.
IND vs SA Live Score: India (116/4 in 14 ovs), chasing 214 vs India in Mullanpur. Tilak Varma (51*), Hardik Pandya (18*).
The asking rate is 15 and Hardik Pandya needs to take a few chances now. George Linde is bowling his 3rd over, and perhaps Pandya needs to take his chances against the spinners in Mullanpur.
12.1: George Linde to Hardik Pandya, SIX! Floated, full and around middle. Hardik Pandya clears his front leg out of the way, drags it and pumps over the wide long on fence for a biggie.
Hardik takes his chance against Linde in the first ball of the over but from there on it is absolutely quiet.
India score 11 runs from that over, but it is lower than the required rate at the moment.
IND vs SA Live Score: India (105/4 in 13 ovs), chasing 214 vs India in Mullanpur. Tilak Varma (44*), Hardik Pandya (16*).
Axar Patel is gone! And that is the fourth wicket down for India in this match. But was that caught, or did that drop right in front of the fielder?
7.3: Ottneil Baartman to Axar Patel, OUT! CAUGHT! Length ball, Axar steps out and punches the ball through cover. The bat turns into his hands and goes straight to Rezza Hendricks at cover. Rezza manages to get his hands under the low ball and claims the catch.
The umpires take a look and are satisfied that fingers were kept under the ball.
IND vs SA Live Score: India (67/4 in 8 ovs), chasing 214 vs India in Mullanpur. Tilak Varma (22*), Hardik Pandya (0*).
Tilak Varma and Axar Patel have upped the ante. Tilak wastes no time at all. With zero care about the scorecard, Tilak rips into Lutho Sipamla in the 5th over of the match.
4.4: Lutho Sipamla to Tilak Varma, FOUR! Gets it away! Fuller delivery and around off. Tilak Varma uses his feet, stays leg side of the ball and thumps it to the right of mid off for a boundary.
4.5: Lutho Sipamla to Tilak Varma, SIX! Even better now! Back of a length but around the leg stump line. Tilak Varma gets inside the line of it and helps it on its way over the deep fine leg fence for a biggie.
After the powerplay, Axar Patel attacks spinner Donovan Ferreira and dispatches him for a huge six through the line.
IND vs SA Live Score: India (65/3 in 7 ovs), chasing 214 vs India in Mullanpur. Tilak Varma (21*), Axar Patel (20*).
Shubman Gill’s poor run of form continues as he departs for a golden duck. Lungi Ngidi has delivered exactly what South Africa needed. The over began with a flourish from Abhishek Sharma, who launched a huge six, but Gill couldn’t get off the mark.
What a delivery that was — a perfect length ball on off-stump, hitting the deck and shaping away. Gill, caught in his crease, merely pushed at it, and a thick outside edge flew straight to Hendricks, who pounced to his right.
India (9/1 in 1 ovs), chasing 214 in Mullanpur. Abhishek Sharma (9*), Axar Patel (0*)
