India has emerged as the world's third most competitive nation in the field of artificial intelligence, according to a recent report by Stanford University. This ranking highlights India's significant and rapid advancements in the global AI arena.
The University's Global AI Vibrancy Tool, visualized by a Capitalist chart, placed India in third position with a score of 21.59. The United States leads the pack with a score of 78.6, followed by China at 36.95.
While the score difference indicates that India still has ground to cover to rival the US and China, its score surpasses several other major nations, including South Korea, Japan, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
The Global AI Vibrancy Tool assesses competitiveness based on factors such as the availability of talent, research and development, investment levels, public policy and perception, infrastructure, and overall economic impact.
The report attributes India's rapid progress to a robust technology ecosystem, increasing investments, and a growing talent pool.
This development follows announcements from several major global companies regarding multi-billion dollar investments in India's AI infrastructure over the next few years. Amazon has pledged to invest $35 billion by 2030 in AI, logistics, and cloud computing infrastructure. Microsoft has also committed $17.5 billion, marking its largest investment in Asia, to expand its cloud and AI capabilities. Intel, Cognizant and OpenAI have previously announced investments and collaborations within the country.
