During the fifth T20I between India and South Africa, umpire Rohan Pandit was struck by a ball hit by Sanju Samson, causing a temporary halt in play.

A bizarre incident occurred during the fifth T20I match between India and South Africa when umpire Rohan Pandit was hit by a forceful shot from Sanju Samson, leading to a brief suspension of the game. The incident took place in the ninth over of India's innings, raising concerns among players and spectators.

The incident unfolded on the fourth ball of the ninth over, bowled by South Africa's Donovan Ferreira. Samson, who was batting well, powerfully struck a full delivery straight down the pitch. Ferreira tried to catch the ball on its return, but it slipped through his hands and deflected sharply, hitting umpire Rohan Pandit on the knee. The impact visibly caused him pain.

Pandit immediately moved away from his position before falling to the ground as the ball rolled towards long-on. Medical personnel quickly came to the umpire’s aid. Players from both India and South Africa checked on Pandit's condition. Play was briefly stopped to ensure he was able to continue. Despite the initial discomfort, he was able to continue after receiving treatment.

Before the interruption, India was batting aggressively after South Africa chose to bowl. At the time of the incident, India's score was 95 for 1 in 8.4 overs, with a run rate of nearly 11 per over. Samson was at the crease with 36 runs off 20 balls, including four fours and two sixes. Tilak Varma was also batting well with 21 runs off 11 balls, following Abhishek Sharma's quickfire 34 off 21 deliveries. India capitalized on the Powerplay, scoring 67 runs in the first six overs. South Africa rotated their bowlers, but could not contain India's strong start. Corbin Bosch claimed the only wicket that had fallen. India entered the match leading the five-match series 2-1 and seemed determined to extend their lead. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. the incident involving the umpire became the main talking point.
