India defeated South Africa by 30 runs in the 5th T20I, with Varun Chakravarthy and Jasprit Bumrah delivering match-winning performances.
India secured a 30-run victory over South Africa in the 5th T20I, with stellar performances from both batsmen and bowlers. Suryakumar Yadav remains undefeated as India's T20I captain.
The foundation for India's win was laid early by Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. Later, Tilak Verma and Hardik Pandya accelerated the scoring in the final overs.
South Africa's chase was briefly fueled by Quinton de Kock and Dewald Brevis, but Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya dismissed both players, shifting the momentum back to India. Varun Chakravarthy's four wickets, including a crucial double-strike, sealed the win for the hosts.
After the match, reflecting on his innings, a player noted the excellent batting conditions early on, praising the intent shown by Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. His strategy was to maintain a high strike rate from the beginning. He also lauded his partnership with Hardik Pandya, highlighting Pandya's aggressive approach and clean hitting, which allowed them to aim for a total of 230-240 runs.
He also mentioned his dedication to improving his bowling and expressed his readiness to bowl more in future games, pending the captain's decision.
Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah, who had seemed out of form, delivered a crucial performance when his team needed it most, claiming two wickets. One of those wickets was the dangerous Marco Jansen, whose tour of India has ended.
Varun Chakravarthy's figures were somewhat marred by Jansen hitting two sixes in one over, but he still managed to take four wickets. Arshdeep Singh also contributed by dismissing David Miller.
South Africa's Corbin Bosch and Lungi Ngidi were left to finish the innings, but the required run rate proved too steep.
India will now face New Zealand in their final series before the World Cup. The squad for the World Cup will be announced tomorrow.
