Abhigyan Kundu's record-breaking double century and Deepesh Devendran's 5-wicket haul powered India U-19 to a dominant 315-run victory over Malaysia.
India U-19 secured a resounding 315-run victory against Malaysia in their Under-19 Asia Cup match on Tuesday, thanks to Abhigyan Kundu's record-setting 209 not out and Deepesh Devendran's impressive 5/22. The win ensures India finishes the group stage with a perfect record of three wins and secures their place in the semi-finals.
Kundu's double century is the first by an Indian in Youth ODIs. His outstanding innings, along with Devendran's bowling performance, contributed to India's dominant performance. Malaysia's Hamzah Panggi showed some resistance with the bat, but it wasn't enough to change the game's outcome.
Malaysia won the toss and chose to field first at the Sevens Stadium in Dubai. India's innings concluded with a massive 408 for seven in 50 overs, largely due to Abhigyan Kundu's historic double century. Muhammad Akram was the pick of the Malaysian bowlers, taking five wickets for 89 runs.
In response, Malaysia struggled to build partnerships and lost wickets at regular intervals. Kishan Singh provided an early breakthrough, dismissing Azib Wajdi. Deepesh Devendran then ran through the middle order, claiming five wickets. Khilan Patel and Kanishk Chouhan also contributed with a wicket each, ensuring India's comprehensive victory.
With this win, India progresses to the semi-finals with an unblemished record. They will face either Sri Lanka or Bangladesh in the semi-final on Friday. Stay tuned to Sportstar for the latest updates on the U-19 Asia Cup.
