Arsenal legend Ian Wright has singled out Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus for praise after their crucial contributions secured a late victory for the Gunners against Wolves.
The match appeared to be heading for a draw after Tolu Arokodare's injury-time goal cancelled out Arsenal's lead, which came courtesy of a Sam Johnstone own goal. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. Arsenal managed to snatch a win in the dying moments when Yerson Mosquera, under pressure from Gabriel Jesus, turned a Bukayo Saka cross into his own net.
Wright highlighted Saka's persistence and Jesus's impactful movement – the latter building on a strong performance earlier in the week – as key to the victory. He expressed his relief that the pair delivered when it mattered most.
In an Instagram post, Wright told his followers: 'Well done guys that’s not easy. It’s not easy trying to win the league. Again we weren’t at our best. We did it, we got the three points at home which we have to do.'
He continued, 'What can I say, well done Saka again my friend. Came up with the goods. Jesus beautiful to see even though they’re saying it’s an own goal, I don’t really care. What I do think is we've just got to go this is the journey this is what it’s about. We’ve done it three times now finishing second and we are trying to get over that line. Get behind the boys. Let’s go.'
Despite Wright's focus on the positive outcome, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta described the team's overall performance as 'unacceptable'. Arteta's full comments were not available.
