Shubman Gill will miss the fourth T20I against South Africa after injuring his toe during training. India leads the series 2-1. Details here.
The Indian cricket team has suffered a setback as Shubman Gill, the T20I vice-captain, is set to miss the fourth T20I against South Africa because of a toe injury. The right-handed batsman sustained the injury during a training session in Lucknow on Wednesday. The BCCI medical team has advised him to rest.
While it remains uncertain whether Gill will be available for the final match in Ahmedabad, his chances appear slim. Further assessments and scans are scheduled to determine the timeline for his return. He was absent from the team's pre-match routine in Lucknow.
A team source revealed that Gill injured his toe while batting. Although the injury doesn't seem severe currently, further evaluation and scans are necessary for a clearer understanding. The source also noted that weather conditions in northern India might prolong recovery from such injuries. A decision regarding his participation in the Ahmedabad game will be made soon.
India currently leads the five-match series 2-1 and aims to secure an unassailable lead against South Africa. The team is already without Axar Patel, who was sidelined due to illness and replaced by Shahbaz Ahmed. Jasprit Bumrah also missed the Dharamsala fixture due to personal reasons but has since rejoined the squad for the fourth T20I. With Gill unavailable, Sanju Samson might receive additional opportunities at the top of the order.
