If Hooda is called for suspect action again, he risks being banned from bowling in the IPL
Deepak Hooda continues to be part of the dubious list of players with suspect bowling actions. The 30-year-old all-rounder, who currently represents Rajasthan in domestic cricket, remains under the suspect category just as he was in the last IPL season. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) formally intimated this position on Hooda's bowling action to the IPL franchises on Saturday (December 13), ahead of the December 16 auction.
Hooda, who bowls part-time off-spin, featured in seven IPL matches representing Chennai Super Kings last season, but did not bowl in any of them. However, he has bowled six overs in the BCCI domestic competitions since - one over in the Ranji Trophy and five overs in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
The last match he was seen bowling was on December 8 when Rajasthan played Jharkhand. If he is called for suspect action again, he risks being banned from bowling in the IPL. He bowled three overs in that game in Ahmedabad, claiming three wickets for 24 runs.
Hooda, who has represented India in 10 ODIs and 21 T20Is, features in the AL1 (all-rounder) category at the Abu Dhabi auction with a base price of Rs 75 lakh. There are seven players in the AL1 category, including Venkatesh Iyer, Wanindu Hasaranga and Rachin Ravindra, among others. The AL1 category is second in the auction order to come under the hammer.
The only other player with a suspect action is Abid Mushtaq of Jammu and Kashmir, a 29-year-old left-arm spinner with a base price of Rs 30 lakh. KL Shrijith, a 29-year-old off-spinner from Karnataka (No. 354 on the auction list), is banned from bowling in the IPL; he was placed under the ban last season itself. Rishabh Chauhan of Madhya Pradesh (No. 345 on the auction list) also features on the banned list.
