Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton told reporters on Sunday evening that LAPD patrol officers responding to the home late on Sunday afternoon discovered two bodies inside the property, as per reuters.
Hamilton said detectives from the LAPD’s robbery-homicide division were awaiting a search warrant before entering the home to carry out a full search and detailed investigation of the premises.
Earlier in the evening, the LAPD described the case on social media as an investigation into an “apparent homicide”, although Hamilton said that no suspect had been identified as of Sunday night.
Hamilton added that the cause of death would be released by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Reiner, born on March 6, 1947 in the Bronx, New York, became a prominent figure in American entertainment, following in the footsteps of his father, the distinguished writer and performer Carl Reiner. His father's celebrated contributions to the Golden Age of Television, including acting and writing roles on Your Show of Shows and the creation of The Dick Van Dyke Show, set a strong foundation for Reiner’s own career.
After moving to Hollywood, Reiner attended UCLA Film School and began his acting journey with minor roles in popular series such as Batman, That Girl, and The Beverly Hillbillies. He also appeared in his father's film, Enter Laughing (1967), marking his early involvement in the industry.
Reiner gained widespread recognition portraying Michael "Meathead" Stivic, the outspoken son-in-law in All in the Family, earning Emmy Awards in 1974 and 1978. The show, based on the British series Til Death Do Us Part, was known for addressing subjects rarely seen on television at the time and became a pivotal moment in American TV history.
Transitioning from television, Reiner moved behind the camera and made a significant impact as a director, writer, and co-star in This is Spinal Tap, the 1984 mockumentary comedy. The film, which introduced the phrase This is Spinal Tap, became a cult classic and showcased Reiner’s versatility in the industry.

Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, Reiner directed a string of successful films including Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, and A Few Good Men. He also co-founded Castle Rock Entertainment, producing several notable projects such as In the Line of Fire, Needful Things, and Malice.
Later, Reiner turned to more politically charged projects, directing films like Ghosts of Mississippi, LBJ, and Shock and Awe. His 2023 documentary, Albert Brooks: Defending My Life., further underscored his lasting influence on filmmaking.
An active political advocate, Reiner chose activism over public office, stating, "No, I don’t want to be an elected official," and "I want to get things done." He was known for supporting various social causes, including gay rights and anti-tobacco campaigns.
Reflecting on his career, Reiner remarked, "I’m making the movies I want to make," adding, "Studios are looking for hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars in profit and you’re not going to get it with a little movieBut I came into this business to express myself and tell stories, not just churn out a product." He is survived by his wife and children, continuing a legacy that shaped television and film for generations.
