Helmut Marko will reportedly receive a substantial payout from Red Bull, equivalent to his 2026 salary, following his departure at the end of 2025.
Helmut Marko is reportedly set to receive a payout from Red Bull equivalent to his full 2026 salary as part of his exit agreement, according to BILD. The substantial sum is estimated to be around €10 million.
Marko, 82, has been a fixture at Red Bull since the team's formation in 2005. He decided to step down from his role with the Milton Keynes-based team on Tuesday, marking the end of a six-decade career in motorsport. His departure comes a year before his current contract with Red Bull was scheduled to conclude at the end of 2026.
While Marko made the decision to leave, the report indicates that the payout is structured as a 'golden handshake,' acknowledging Marko's significant contributions to the team. It serves as a gesture of appreciation for his accomplishments during his tenure.
“I have been involved in motorsport for six decades now, and the past 20-plus years at Red Bull have been an extraordinary and extremely successful journey,” Marko stated in the Red Bull press release announcing his departure.
“It has been a wonderful time that I have been able to help shape and share with so many talented people. Everything we have built and achieved together fills me with pride.
“Narrowly missing out on the world championship this season has moved me deeply and made it clear to me that now is the right moment for me personally to end this very long, intense, and successful chapter.
“I wish the entire team all the best for the future.”
