A detailed comparison of the Harley-Davidson X440T and the Triumph Speed 400, examining engine specs, features, cycle parts, and pricing. Which bike comes out on top?

Harley-Davidson has recently released the X440 T, a more premium version of their standard X440 motorcycle. Having already reviewed the X440 T and determined its advantages, we now present a detailed comparison with one of its main competitors, the Triumph Speed 400, focusing on their specifications.

**Engine Comparison**

The Harley-Davidson X440 T utilizes a 440cc, air/oil-cooled, long-stroke engine, producing 27.3bhp and 38Nm of torque. This engine is designed for a relaxed riding experience with an emphasis on torque. In contrast, the Triumph Speed 400 features a more modern, 398.15cc, liquid-cooled engine that delivers 39.5bhp and 37.5Nm of torque, built to rev higher. The Speed 400 also boasts a better power-to-weight ratio; its kerb weight is 179kg, making it 13kg lighter than the Harley-Davidson.

**Cycle Parts**

The X440 T employs a trellis frame and features larger 18-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels. It uses upside-down (USD) front forks and traditional dual springs for the rear suspension. Braking is handled by larger 320mm front and 240mm rear disc brakes. Both the Harley-Davidson and the Triumph Speed 400 are equipped with dual-channel ABS. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. the X440 T offers the ability to switch off ABS for the rear wheel, a feature introduced with the new 'T' variant. The Speed 400 is built on a perimeter frame and uses 17-inch alloy wheels, USD forks, and a monoshock for rear suspension. Its braking system consists of 300mm front and 230mm rear discs with ByBre calipers.

**Features and Technology**

Harley-Davidson has enhanced the technology in the X440 T. It already included a Bluetooth-enabled round TFT screen, and the new 'T' version adds ride-by-wire, two ride modes, and switchable traction control. A new panic brake alert system has also been implemented. The Triumph Speed 400 takes a more traditional approach with a semi-digital console that includes an LCD. While it offers traction control, it cannot be switched off for the rear wheel. Bluetooth connectivity is also absent. Both motorcycles share features like a slipper clutch and a USB-C charging port.

**Price**

The Triumph Speed 400 has a more attractive price point of Rs. 2.34 Lakh. The Harley-Davidson X440 T is significantly more expensive at Rs. 2.79 Lakh (both prices are ex-showroom).
