Barcelona’s narrow 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt was yet another reminder of how unpredictable this team can be under Hansi Flick.
The match could easily have slipped away when the visitors stunned the Camp Nou by taking an unexpected early lead.
But, in a now familiar narrative, Barça resisted the pressure, regrouped, and produced a spirited comeback, this time inspired by an unlikely hero in Jules Kounde.
This latest turnaround adds to an already remarkable trend under Flick. Since the German tactician took charge, Eintracht Frankfurt became the 16th team to score first against Barcelona, only to walk away defeated.
If there is one trait that symbolises Flick’s Barcelona across the two seasons, it is their extraordinary capacity to recover from adversity.
A look at the victims
Barça’s win over Frankfurt marked their seventh comeback of the season, and the numbers behind this achievement are staggering.
Six of these dramatic turnarounds occurred in La Liga. Away from home, Barcelona overturned deficits in a 3-1 victory at Oviedo, a 3-2 escape at Levante, and a thrilling 5-3 result against Real Betis.
They have been just as resilient at home, clawing back victories against Real Sociedad (2-1), Alaves (3-1), Atletico Madrid (3-1), and now Eintracht Frankfurt (2-1).
A familiar setting
Interestingly, Flick’s era last season began in a similar fashion. His official debut saw Barcelona overturn a 0-1 deficit to beat Valencia 2-1 on the opening day of the 2024–25 season.
That pattern continued with dramatic wins against Rayo Vallecano (1-2), against Atletico (4-2), against Celta Vigo (4-3), and against Valladolid (2-1).
The Champions League also witnessed a spectacular comeback at Benfica (5-4), while the most memorable displays came in three separate victories over Real Madrid, first in the Spanish Super Cup (5-2), then in the Copa del Rey final (3-2), and finally the decisive league clash at Montjuic (4-3).
