Google is ending its Dark Web Reports feature, which scans for exposed personal info, in January 2026. Here's what account users need to know.
Google is making changes to its account security features, announcing the discontinuation of Dark Web Reports. The service, launched in July 2024, scans the dark web for users' personal information, specifically their Google email address, and alerts them if it's found on potentially dangerous sites.
While the Dark Web Reports feature provided general information, Google stated that user feedback indicated it wasn't effective in guiding users on how to remove their information from these sites. As a result, Google will stop monitoring for new results on January 15, 2026, and the data will no longer be accessible after February 16, 2026.
In an email to users, Google stated that it is shifting its focus to tools that provide more actionable steps for protecting personal information online. The company emphasized that it remains committed to online security and will continue to track and defend users from online threats, including those on the dark web.
Google advises users to utilize its other security features, such as Security and Privacy Checkups, Passkeys, and two-step verification. Additionally, the "Results About You" feature allows users to find and request the removal of their personal information, like phone numbers and home addresses, from Google search results.
