Indian spinner Ravi Bishnoi is thrilled to be joining the Rajasthan Royals after being acquired for Rs 7.2 crore in the IPL mini-auction. Bishnoi described his move to the Royals as a 'ghar wapsi,' or homecoming, and is eager to perform in front of his local fans.
Bishnoi, previously with the Lucknow Super Giants, is looking forward to contributing to the team's success and creating memorable moments with both wickets and wins. The Rajasthan Royals showed immediate interest in Bishnoi, opening the bidding as soon as his name was announced with a base price of Rs 2 crore.
A bidding war ensued, with Chennai Super Kings also vying for the leg-spinner. Ultimately, the Rajasthan Royals secured Bishnoi's services for Rs 7.2 crore.
In an interview, Bishnoi expressed his happiness about returning to his roots. He stated that he started as a net bowler in Rajasthan and that playing for his home franchise was a dream come true. He also mentioned his family's excitement and his anticipation for the support of the home crowd.
Bishnoi has played 77 IPL games, representing the Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings, and has taken 72 wickets. He acknowledged the support he received from KL Rahul at Punjab Kings and Rishabh Pant at Lucknow Super Giants, noting the freedom they gave him on the field. Bishnoi also highlighted the value of having wicketkeepers as captains, who provided guidance from behind the stumps.
Despite being retained by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 11 crore before IPL 2025, he was later released after taking only nine wickets in 11 matches. Bishnoi is now focused on the opportunity with Rajasthan Royals and is especially looking forward to partnering with Ravindra Jadeja. He believes Jadeja's experience will be invaluable for the team. Bishnoi also emphasized the importance of continuous improvement and practice to maintain a competitive edge.
Bishnoi's main weapon is his googly, but he has also been working on variations. He reiterated his eagerness to play in front of his home crowd and hear their cheers.
