R Ashwin anticipates uncapped Indian wicket-keeper batsmen, Kartik Sharma and Salil Arora, could spark intense bidding wars at the IPL 2026 auction.
Indian Premier League (IPL) teams will head to Abu Dhabi on December 16 for the IPL 2026 mini-auction. Veteran cricketer R Ashwin has identified uncapped Indian wicket-keeper batsmen as potential catalysts in the player market. He believes these 'hidden gems' could unexpectedly command high prices, triggering bidding frenzies among franchises seeking flexibility and depth in their middle order.
During a conversation with journalist Vimal Kumra on the YouTube show "Ash ki Baat," Ashwin highlighted Kartik Sharma and Salil Arora as the players most likely to ignite such bidding wars. He also mentioned Tushar Raheja from Tamil Nadu as another uncapped player with significant value.
According to Ashwin, teams often seek specific solutions at auctions. If a franchise needs an Indian wicket-keeper who can contribute powerfully in the middle order, failing to secure their first choice can lead to aggressive bidding for the next available option, especially if other teams also sense a scarcity of such players.
Salil Arora's recent performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy strengthens his case. His impressive innings of 125 runs off just 45 balls, including 11 sixes and nine fours, has likely caught the attention of scouts and team owners looking for Indian power hitters.
Kartik Sharma and Tushar Raheja, also uncapped Indian wicketkeepers, have a base price of INR 30 lakh. While their initial price is modest, high demand could lead to a significant increase in their final auction value.
