Elon Musk has become the first individual to reach a $600 billion net worth, fueled by the rising valuations of SpaceX and Tesla. Read the full story.

Elon Musk, CEO of both SpaceX and Tesla, has achieved a new financial milestone, becoming the first person ever to possess a net worth of $600 billion. This surge in wealth, as reported by Forbes, is largely attributed to the increasing valuation of SpaceX, which is potentially considering a public offering at a valuation of $800 billion. Musk had previously surpassed the $500 billion mark in October.

Musk's wealth is tied to his ownership stakes in SpaceX and Tesla, along with his ventures into artificial intelligence. His estimated 42% stake in SpaceX, which is reportedly preparing for an IPO next year, is a primary driver. It is estimated that SpaceX alone could contribute approximately $168 billion to Musk's total net worth. His holdings in Tesla, around 12% excluding stock options, are valued at roughly $197 billion. Despite slowing sales, Tesla shares have increased by 13% this year, further bolstering Musk's financial standing. Additionally, Musk reportedly owns a 53% stake in xAI, valued at $60 billion.

Musk believes that money itself may eventually become obsolete. In a recent appearance on the People by WTF podcast, he suggested that AI and robotics could advance to a point where all human needs are met, rendering money unnecessary. He envisions a future where robots construct homes, cultivate food, manufacture goods, and provide healthcare and education at minimal cost. In such a scenario, access to resources would no longer be determined by wages or salaries. Musk referenced Iain M. Banks' "The Culture" series as an example of this utopian vision, where AI enables citizens to have anything they desire, allowing them to focus on personal interests rather than traditional work.

Musk emphasized the potential of AI and robotics to create universal wealth. He stated that the primary path to achieving widespread prosperity lies in the advancement of these technologies. Musk imagines a future where technological innovation generates abundance, liberating individuals from the limitations of conventional employment and fundamentally reshaping the global economy. While recognizing the ambitious nature of this vision, Musk acknowledged that significant effort will be required to reach a point where work becomes optional. The integration of AI and robotics has the potential to transform how humans live, work, and interact with resources.
