Donald Trump Wants To Rename American Football: 'It Doesn't Make Sense'

US President Donald Trump suggests renaming American football, claiming soccer is the true football.
Fueled by the excitement for the FIFA 2026 World Cup, US President Donald Trump stated on Friday that American football should be renamed, asserting that the game played with a round ball, soccer, is the true football.
Speaking at the FIFA World Cup draw on Friday, Trump acknowledged the existing conflict in terminology, highlighting that “this is football, there is no question" and suggesting the NFL (National Football League) should adopt a different name.
For Americans, “football" typically refers to a sport mainly involving the use of hands, markedly different from what the rest of the world knows as football. Each year, nearly the entire nation watches the NFL championship final, the Super Bowl. FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized to Americans that the 2026 World Cup would be equivalent to 104 Super Bowls.
As an avid sports fan, Trump’s interest in soccer has been steadily growing as the 2026 World Cup, set to be hosted in the United States, Mexico, and Canada next summer, draws nearer.
Trump Wins Peace Prize
Trump received FIFA’s new peace prize at the World Cup draw. He is the first person to receive this award. FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who has a close relationship with Trump, presented the prize during the event at the Kennedy Center in Washington.
Trump said the award was “one of the great honors" of his life.
“Thank you very much. This is truly one of the great honors of my life. And beyond awards, Gianni and I were discussing this, we saved millions and millions of lives. The world is a safer place now." Trump said.
Infantino said FIFA chose Trump for the prize because of his “exceptional" efforts to promote peace and unity.
He gave Trump a gold trophy, a certificate, and a medal.
Trump put the medal on immediately, saying he would wear it right away.
FIFA created the annual peace prize in November to recognize people who bring “hope for future generations."
