Ranveer Singh is known for his transformative roles, and in 'Dhurandhar,' he plays a spy named Hamza Ali Mazari. To ensure this character looked distinct from his previous role as Khilji, makeup and character design artist Preetisheel Singh meticulously crafted his appearance.
Singh focused on details like hair texture, freckles, and skin tone to differentiate Mazari from Khilji. The process of transforming Singh into Mazari took up to 1.5 hours each time.
Singh spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about creating the look for Hamza Ali Mazari. She emphasized the importance of getting the hair right, aiming for a balance that enhanced the film without being distracting, especially since Mazari isn't initially a central character. The plot follows Mazari's journey from being homeless to joining a gang, and Singh wanted his appearance to reflect this.
To achieve a rugged, raw look, Singh focused on creating greasy, unkempt hair that would sometimes be tied back. She also added freckles and tanned his skin. She addressed initial concerns that Singh might resemble Khilji due to similar features like long hair and brown eyes. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. Singh, who also designed the Khilji look, assured everyone that she would avoid repeating herself.
Preetisheel Singh also revealed that creating Ranveer Singh's look for 'Dhurandhar' took around 90 minutes on average. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. looks with blood, scars, and bruising could take up to two hours. She used extensions and wigs for both the beard and hair because the shooting schedule jumped between different phases of the character's development.
