That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. the MG Windsor EV, an SUV providing notable competition, is slated for a price increase in January 2026. This raises the question: is it better to purchase the Windsor EV now, or absorb the higher cost next year?
**Price Increase Details**
The Nexon's sales have benefited from recent GST 2.0 reforms, and its electric version, the Nexon.ev, has significantly contributed to its overall success. The Nexon EV also encouraged other automakers to enter the EV market. MG Motor, initially struggling, found success with the Windsor EV, its third EV model. The Windsor EV's spacious interior and relatively affordable price have made it popular, with the brand heavily reliant on its sales. Currently, the Windsor EV ranges from Rs 15.07 lakh to Rs 19.69 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. starting January 1, 2026, MG will increase the price by up to 2%, potentially adding up to Rs 37,000 to the cost.
**Buy Now or Wait?**
Price hikes at the start of a new year are common in the Indian automotive market. In the Windsor EV's case, the increase isn't substantial. If saving money is a priority, purchasing in December 2025 is advisable. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. consider the impact on resale value. A car manufactured in 2025 may have a lower resale value than one from 2026, even if purchased shortly after the new year. Given the modest price hike, investing in a newer 2026 model might be a worthwhile consideration.
**Windsor EV Highlights**
The Windsor EV's popularity stems from its value proposition. While competitors offer sub-4 meter EVs, the Windsor EV boasts a 2700mm wheelbase, providing exceptional interior space. Key features include 135-degree reclining rear seats, a 15.6-inch touchscreen, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, and Level 2 ADAS.
Battery options include a 38kWh pack with a claimed range of 332km and a 52.9kWh pack offering a claimed 449km range. Both versions use an electric motor producing 134bhp and 200Nm of torque.
