Arshdeep Singh explains Suryakumar Yadav's delayed DRS call for Reeza Hendricks during India's T20I win over South Africa: 'He wanted some suspense.'
Suryakumar Yadav, India's captain, injected a bit of drama into what would have been a straightforward DRS review during Sunday's match in Dharamsala. Arshdeep Singh shared after the game that the skipper intentionally waited before signaling for the review to create suspense.
The incident occurred during India's seven-wicket victory against South Africa in the third T20I. This win put India ahead 2-1 in the five-match series, following dominant wins by each team in the first two matches.
**The Hendricks DRS Moment**
Early in South Africa's innings, the ball struck opener Reeza Hendricks on the pad. The Indian team seemed confident enough to challenge the on-field umpire's decision. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. instead of immediately signaling for the review, Suryakumar Yadav paused, adding a moment of anticipation that amused viewers.
Arshdeep Singh, named player of the match for his impressive bowling, clarified that there was no doubt about whether to review the call. The delay was simply a bit of theatrics orchestrated by the captain.
"It wasn't really a question. Surya bhai just wanted to build some suspense," Arshdeep explained in the post-match discussion. "I knew it was out as soon as the ball hit Hendricks' pad. Jitesh Sharma gave me the go-ahead, and we were ready to review, but Surya bhai decided to take his time before signaling."
For Arshdeep, this lighthearted moment came during a significant personal turnaround. After a difficult performance in the previous game, the conditions in Dharamsala helped him rediscover his form. India bowled South Africa out for 117 and then comfortably chased down the target.
