Dale Steyn praised Arshdeep Singh's bowling performance in the 3rd T20I in Dharamsala, highlighting his effective execution in the format. India leads 2-1.
Arshdeep Singh's performance in the third T20I against South Africa in Dharamsala has garnered significant praise, including from former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn. Steyn, who was providing commentary during the match, lauded Arshdeep's bowling, particularly his performance during the powerplay overs.
Arshdeep's tight bowling in his initial three-over spell, where he conceded very few runs, made a strong impression. Steyn highlighted Arshdeep's disciplined line and length, emphasizing how it exemplified effective bowling in the T20 format. According to Steyn's post on X, Arshdeep demonstrated “exactly how it’s done” in T20 cricket, contrasting it with Test matches where bowlers have more time to work over a batter.
Later in the innings, Arshdeep returned to bowl the 19th over and claimed the crucial wicket of Aiden Markram, who had been anchoring the South African innings with a score of 61.
This strong showing came after a difficult outing for Arshdeep in the second T20I in Mullanpur, where he conceded 54 runs, including seven wides in a single over. Gautam Gambhir, the head coach, visibly expressed his displeasure at the performance.
India's Bowling Attack Shines in Dharamsala
In the third T20I, India's captain Suryakumar Yadav chose to bowl after winning the toss. The decision paid off as the Indian bowlers, including Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Harshit Rana, and Kuldeep Yadav, each took two wickets, helping to dismiss South Africa for a total of just 117 runs.
The Indian pace attack, featuring Arshdeep, Harshit, Hardik Pandya, and Shivam Dube, stepped up in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, who was unavailable due to personal reasons. It remains uncertain whether Bumrah will rejoin the squad for the remaining matches in the series.
India successfully chased down the target of 118, securing victory with 25 balls remaining and seven wickets in hand. Abhishek Sharma (35) and Shubman Gill (28) contributed valuable runs. This win gave India a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
