Apple's entry into the foldable phone market is predicted to spur growth, with Samsung Display dominating panel supply in 2026, according to Counterpoint Research.
The arrival of Apple's foldable iPhone is projected to significantly boost the foldable smartphone market, with global shipments of foldable panels expected to jump 46% year-over-year in 2026, according to a new report from Counterpoint Research.
Apple's entry into the foldable arena is anticipated to reignite consumer interest in the category. Counterpoint Research believes this renewed interest will create increased demand throughout the supply chain and likely push average selling prices upward next year. Samsung Display is expected to be the primary beneficiary, with its market share projected to reach 57% in 2026.
The research firm also anticipates that the “book-style” foldable design will further solidify its market dominance. These devices, characterized by large, inward-folding screens, are gaining traction among users seeking enhanced productivity and larger display areas.
This trend was already visible with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. During its initial sales period in the latter half of 2025, the Fold model outsold the clamshell-style Flip model for the first time. Counterpoint observed a similar pattern in China, where consumers increasingly favor larger foldable phones despite their higher price tags.
On the supply side, panel manufacturers are predicted to experience varying levels of growth. BOE's shipment share could decline by 8% year-on-year, while Visionox is forecast to grow by 8%. TCL CSOT is projected to grow by 47%, and Tianma may see a dramatic surge of 580% year-on-year.
Counterpoint estimates overall foldable smartphone shipments will increase substantially.
