Amazon has announced a new round of job cuts in Washington state, separate from the 14,000 corporate layoffs revealed in October. A filing with the state government indicates that 84 positions are being eliminated.
The company described these cuts as a result of routine organizational reviews. Impacted employees will receive 90 days of pay and benefits.
According to the filing, the separations are scheduled to occur between February 2 and February 23, 2026, affecting employees across more than 30 office locations in Seattle and Bellevue, as well as six remote workers in Washington. The roles impacted span from entry-level to director and principal positions, including software development engineers, program managers, recruiters, HR specialists, and UX designers. Amazon stated that employees were notified beginning in early November, providing at least 89 days' advance notice, exceeding the 60-day minimum required by law.
An Amazon spokesperson, Brad Glasser, stated that these decisions were not made lightly and confirmed they are unrelated to the broader workforce reductions. Employees who secure internal transfers before their separation date will not be laid off.
In October, Amazon disclosed plans to eliminate 2,303 corporate positions in Washington state, primarily in Seattle and Bellevue, through a filing with the State Employment Security Department. This figure represented the first geographic breakdown of the company's 14,000 global job cuts.
CEO Andy Jassy announced the initial cuts on October 27 as part of an effort to streamline the company. He previously indicated that increased use of AI tools could lead to further job cuts by automating routine tasks. HR chief Beth Galetti also signaled that cutbacks would continue into 2026 in a memo.
