Aditya Dhar expresses gratitude and surprise after Ram Gopal Varma lauded his film 'Dhurandhar,' admitting RGV's influence on his filmmaking.
Aditya Dhar has responded to high praise from Ram Gopal Varma for his film 'Dhurandhar,' expressing feeling "overwhelmed" by the positive feedback. Dhar revealed that he initially came to Mumbai with the aspiration of working with Varma.
Varma, known as RGV, stated on X (formerly Twitter) that Aditya Dhar has "completely and single handedly changed the future of Indian cinema , be it north or south," calling 'Dhurandhar' a "quantum leap" in filmmaking.
Dhar responded to Varma's comments with gratitude, stating that Varma's films taught him to "think dangerously" and shaped his approach to cinema. He added, "If this tweet were a film, I would have gone to watch it first day first show...and come out changed."
He further acknowledged Varma's impact: "You were one of my favourite directors who made Indian cinema feel fearless, impolite, and alive. If Dhurandhar has even a fraction of that DNA, it’s because your films whispered (sometimes screamed) in my head while I was writing and directing it.” Dhar also noted that Varma taught an entire generation that cinema should never apologize for its ambition.
Concluding his statement, Dhar said that the praise felt surreal and challenging, adding pressure to his future projects. He expressed that the "fan" in him was overwhelmed, while the "filmmaker" felt challenged, and the aspiring director who came to Mumbai to work under RGV finally felt seen.
