Director Aditya Dhar responds to 26/11 Taj attack survivors' review of 'Dhurandhar,' acknowledging the film's depiction of the brutal truth of the attacks.
Director Aditya Dhar has responded to the review of his film 'Dhurandhar' by survivors of the 26/11 Taj Mahal Palace Hotel attack. In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Dhar expressed his gratitude to Rajita and Ajay Bagga, a couple who survived the attacks, for sharing their experiences and the trauma they continue to live with, even 17 years later.
Dhar specifically acknowledged their comments on a scene that incorporated actual phone recordings of the terrorists communicating with their handler about the killings at the Taj Hotel. He emphasized the importance of remembering the event and maintaining unity in the face of adversity.
"Your words remind us why this story had to be told," Dhar stated. "That moment was shaped to reflect the brutal truth. If it leaves a mark, it is to ensure we remember, stand united, and never allow such darkness to return. Thank you for surviving, for speaking, and for strengthening our collective resolve."
The Baggas, who were trapped inside the Taj Hotel for 14 hours during the attacks, had shared their review of a particular "red screen" scene in 'Dhurandhar.' Rajita Bagga wrote about the chilling effect of hearing the recreated instructions given to the terrorists, emphasizing the inhumanity and brutality of the acts. She further noted that the scene, depicting the handlers celebrating the bombings and killings, should inspire rage and a renewed commitment to national security.
Rajita Bagga also credited Aditya Dhar for helping a new generation understand the trauma experienced by survivors and victims' families. She specifically praised Ranveer Singh's portrayal, suggesting it would leave a lasting impression. Ajay Bagga echoed his wife's sentiments, thanking Dhar for accurately portraying their pain and trauma. He stated that the film serves as a reminder to never forget the attacks and exposes the perpetrators of the "heartless, mindless butchery."
'Dhurandhar,' currently in theaters, explores the connections between criminal gangs, terrorist organizations, and politicians within Pakistan. The film stars Ranveer Singh as an Indian spy infiltrating a Baloch gang in Karachi and exposes the planning and support of cross-border terrorism against India. The movie also features Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Gaurav Gera, Saumya Tandon, Danish Pandor and Sara Arjun. The second part of the film is scheduled to be released on March 19.
