Across exteriors and interiors, the Tata Punch facelift will have a more polished, refined appearance
Punch is one of Tata’s bestsellers and ranked among the top five sub-4-meter SUVs. The facelift version is being readied, as evident from multiple sightings of test mules in recent months. Latest spy shots are from Munnar, Kerala, where the Punch facelift has been photographed while parked on a roadside. Let’s check out the details.
Tata Punch facelift CNG – Key features
While the test mule is heavily camouflaged, one can see changes to the lighting setup. It is likely that Punch facelift will have a triangular lighting setup, something similar to Tata’s other SUVs such as Nexon and Harrier. The CNG sticker on the windscreen reveals its powertrain. Punch facelift will retain the existing engine option.
Tata Punch gets power from a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine that generates 87.8 PS and 115 Nm of torque. It is paired with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT transmission. When running on CNG, the output is 73.5 PS and 103 Nm. Tata Punch CNG is offered with only a 5-speed manual transmission. One of the key USPs of Tata CNG cars, including the Punch, is their dual tank setup. This effectively solves the boot space issue that CNG car users often complain about.
At the front, Tata Punch facelift appears to have a refreshed grille design. The lower grille also looks more refined and comes with horizontal slats. Side profile doesn’t seem to get many updates, although new alloys could be introduced. For improved safety, a 360° view camera could be part of the upgrade package.
Features that will be carried over include the squared wheel arches, body cladding, C-pillar mounted rear door handles, blacked-out pillars, door cladding, stylish roof rails, shark-fin antenna and a slightly tapering roofline. At the rear, Punch facelift is expected to get refreshed tail lamps, boot lid and bumper. Top variants could get the tail lamps in connected format for a sportier look and feel.
Equipment list updates
Interiors of the test mule reveal the presence of a large touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument console. One can also spot an elegant steering wheel, which could be the new one with the illuminated logo, as seen with other Tata SUVs. Select variants could get premium features such as front ventilated seats and blind spot monitor. Punch facelift is also expected to offer improved safety with 6 airbags as standard across all variants.
Several of the features available with the existing model will be carried over. The list includes wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, voice assisted electric sunroof, fast USB charger, rear AC vents, engine start/stop, wireless charger and leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob.
With the updates, Tata Punch facelift could be launched at a slightly higher price. The current model is available at a starting price of Rs 5.49 lakh. The Punch CNG is offered at Rs 6.68 lakh. Tata Punch rivals the likes of Hyundai Exter and Maruti Fronx.
