Shivam Mavi is set to return to the IPL after three years of injury setbacks. He has corrected his action and is consistently bowling over 140 kph.
Shivam Mavi is feeling revitalized and ready for his IPL return after three seasons hampered by injuries. The 27-year-old pacer has been consistently playing for Uttar Pradesh across all formats, regularly clocking speeds exceeding 140 kph, thanks to correcting issues with his bowling action, specifically side-flexion problems.
Mavi last played in the IPL in 2022. Since then, he has either been sidelined on the bench or recovering from injuries. The Gujarat Titans (GT) acquired him for Rs 6 crore at the 2023 auction but, surprisingly, never gave him a single playing opportunity. Another injury then forced the Uttar Pradesh bowler into extensive rehabilitation, requiring him to essentially restart his training from the ground up.
Franchises became increasingly concerned about Mavi's fitness, and the bowler recognized the need for a long-term solution to ensure he could stay on the field consistently. Work was needed on his action, and side flexion was identified as a key area for improvement. Once this was addressed, Mavi made regular appearances for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. he still struggled to regain franchise interest. During the 2025 IPL season, he was close to joining the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) due to their injury woes, but the quick recoveries of Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, and Mayank Yadav meant Mavi remained with LSG as a net bowler.
